LORD WELLINGTON AND THE TOAD

THE STORY WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE FIRST GRADE OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA MARCH 1912. THE STORY WAS RECOMMENDED FOR THE DICTEE ON TUESDAYS-= DAY OF THE ESSAY- TRADITIONALLY DAY OF MARS.

LORD WELLINGTON AND THE TOAD 


 Lord Wellington was once walking in his garden. when he saw a little boy looking at something on the ground. 
Wellington walked over to see what the boy was looking at. 
"What are you doing there?" Lord Wellington asked.
 "I am feeding my toad," answered the boy showing his odd pet. "They are going to send me away to school." he went on, and "I am afraid my toad will die." 
"I will take care of the toad for you." Lord Wellington said.
So the boy went away to school. By and by there came a from the great Lord Wellington. telling the boy that toad was well.

THE STORY ABOUT THE DUKE WELLINGTON WAS THE PART OF THE CHRESTOMATIA OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOLS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN 1893.THE STORY WAS FOUND IN  AND PRESENTED AS IT IS.


THE DUKE AND THE SCHOOLBΟΥ 

THE great Duke of Wellington was the summer taking one of his country walks. when he heard a sound of distress.
He found a rosy-faced boy on the ground, bending over a tame toad He was crying though his little heart would break.
"What is the matter, my boy?" said the Duke.
"Please, sir, my poor toad- I bring it something to eat every morning, but I am going a long way off to school now,- nobody will feed it then and I m afraid it will die, sir."
"Don't cry, my lad. I'll have the toad, well fed and you shall know how it goes on."- replied the great General.
The Duke was as good as his word, for more than one letter was sent to the school commencing- "Field- Marshal the Duke of Wellington," and adding that the toad was alive and well.
